Halloween in the U.K.

At this most spooky time of year, what do people in the U.K. like to do? Read on to find out.

1. Decorate their houses

People will decorate their houses with all things macabre; tombstones, skeletons and cauldrons along with spooky lights are often used.

2. Carve pumpkins 🎃

People hollow out a pumpkin, the bigger the better, and then carve intricate designs into them. The most popular is a scary face design known as a Jack-o-lantern. Some people use the pulp of the pumpkin to make a pie!

3. Dress up

People dress up as scary characters such as zombies, werewolves and vampires. This is most popular with children but lots of adults attend Halloween parties too!

4. Trick or treat

Children knock on their neighbours doors and shout ‘trick or treat’. The neighbours will give the children sweets, but if they do not answer, the children will play a trick on them.

5. Watch scary movies

People like to get together with friends, either at home or at the cinema, and watch scary or magical movies. Sometimes they will watch a whole series of movies, like the Harry Potter Collection.
